Series: #momstyle + Merry Christmas Eve!

Thursday night I went to see the Nutcracker ballet with two of my sister in laws + my mother in law.

It was a great show, but the venue was really warm and that paired with gorging myself at the Olive Garden beforehand made me especially drowsy. But overall it was a good night. 🙂

Started off with this J Crew necklace but then decided to switch it up to one of my beloved pairs of Nickel & Suede earrings.

Little S wanted to dress up along with me – even though she wasn’t going to the show, haha.

Was not even awake at this point. 🙂 I also REALLY need to clean my mirror. I know I said this about two weeks ago but I never did. So. There’s that.

(Top: Madewell; Jeans: AE; Booties: Target)

Wore this for an impromptu date night + some last minute Christmas shopping.

(Earrings: Kate Spade New York; Vest: J.crew; Top: Target; Jeans: AE; Booties: Target)

Things got a little festive for some grocery shopping. 😉

So it has been unusually warm in Virginia lately. It’s been in the 70s and although I prefer warm weather to cold – it’s also been raining and so it’s muggy and humid out as well. No bueno.

Anyway, Merry Christmas Eve everyone! Hope your holidays are wonderful and magical. 🙂

Series: Five CHRISTMAS Favorites

This week I’m doing a Christmas version of Five Favorites. Because I can.

  • First up – one of these babies:

Ah, yes. A popcorn tin with three different delectable flavors. Actually, scratch that. TWO delectable flavors (Caramel & Cheese) and one that no one ever eats (Butter). My family ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS had one of these bad boys chillin’ in the living room growing up, and now Joe and I continue this tradition every year. Everyone cherishes gorging themselves on cold popcorn while watch Christmas movies, right? Right. If you don’t have one of these – get your life together. What are you even doing?

  • ABC Family Channel Original Christmas Movies:

Yes. YES. So cheesy. So predictable. So glorious. Here is my listing:

  1. 12 Dates of Christmas
  2. Holiday in Handcuffs
  3. Christmas Cupid
  4. Snowglobe
  5. Holidaze

In my opinion, 12 Dates of Christmas is the best. It’s a “Christmas every day until she gets her life right” kinda film. The main character is pretty cringe-worthy, but Zac Morris is in it. So. yep.

Holiday in Handcuffs is legit hilarious. Even Joe was laughing the other night. And, AC Slater! Saved by the Bell reunion on ABC Family, apparently!

Christmas Cupid is a “Christmas Carol” type story. Mean girl who has lost control over her life must rectify things before she ends up alone and miserable. It’s cute.

Snowglobe is hilarious because it’s SO. STUPID. The entire premise is absolutely ridiculous. This girl finds a way to enter the scene inside of her Christmas snow globe. Yes. And then proceeds to make one of the clay figures inside, her boyfriend (LOL). Just, watch it.

Holidaze is the same type of story. Woman has lost her moral compass and hits her head and ends up in a alternate reality. And must fix stuff. Classic.

There are other original films but they are all really horrible and not worth it. You have been warned.

  • Christmas Candy & Their Festive Wrappers

Excuse while I go eat until I hate myself.

To me, even seeing these colorful red, green, silver & sometimes gold wrappers gets me all excited for the Holidays. Reminds me of opening up my stocking on Christmas morning – there’s nothing better than candy when you’re a kid, let’s be honest.

(Thank you, Santa. For ruining everything.)

I used to keep Christmas candy out in bowls around the holidays but then I would gain ten lbs in a 2 week timeframe and so I stopped, haha. Now I just look longingly at the displays in store. Kind of the same, right?

  • Driving around looking at Christmas lights while listening to Hanson’s Snowed In album:

= Christmas perfection.

This tradition began with my best friend, Autumn. We were probably out Hoodin’. Playing the absolute BEST CHRISTMAS ALBUM OF ALL TIME. Hanson’s Snowed In. (Yes. Check it out. It will revolutionize your Christmas.) Anyway, we would drive around and look at all the lights while sipping on Starbucks. It’s good times. Festive. Really gets you in the spirit.

  • Christmas Eve Candlelit Services:

The church that we attend currently doesn’t do the candlelight services, but I’ll always remember how the church that I grew up in, did. Everyone dressed up in their Christmasy best. The service would be a regular Christmas Eve shindig, with a sermon and carols and the like. But then at the end, we would all get those little white candles with the white cups to catch all the dripping wax.

Then all the lights would be turned off and we would sing something like Silent Night and the entire room was just filled with (what felt like) magic. It really felt just magical. You could really feel God’s presence. It felt almost tangible. Maybe it was the anticipation of what was to come with it being Christmas Eve night and all, but it was just the best.

(My church was a lot smaller than this but you get the gist.)

Bonus Favorite:

Little S opening up gifts on Christmas morning:

Seriously, how awesome is it to see your little ones squealing with delight when opening up their gifts?! It’s pure magic. Seeing the excitement and happiness in their faces when they first see the Christmas tree and all the surprises underneath – it doesn’t get any better. It’s easy to lose some of that excitement as an adult – but after you have kids, it brings it all back tenfold. I can’t wait to see S screaming like a maniac when she sees her Barbie Dreamhouse. Because she will. She had better. It’s supposed to be a pain in the butt to put together – akin to putting together a NASA shuttle or something. Not looking forward to it, but we all must make sacrifices this time of year.

Happy Holidays!

Fantastic Find Alert!

Target. Who doesn’t love that place? There is even a instagram following dedicated to its pure gloriousness – @Targetdoesitagain.

Today I wanted to share a fantastic find that I made the other day while perusing around.

Funnel Neck Tunics!

Completely obsessed. They are comfortable, flattering + go well with jeans or leggings. They can easily be dressed up or down. Perfection.

Call me basic, but one of my favorite looks ever is just a tunic and some leggings + tall boots. So when I found these, it was love at first sight.

They come in three colors – the striped black and cream one above.

A marbled blue & white:

And navy blue:

Both the black & cream striped and the navy blue are made from cotton, modal & spandex – so they are soft yet also feel fairly substantial. I will say that I felt like the solid navy blue one felt a tiny bit thinner than the striped one, so I ended up sizing up one size in the navy one so as to give myself a little more wiggle room – plus to be a bit more comfy and casual in that color. The marbled blue and white one is made from french terry, so that one is even more substantial and feels a bit thicker.

As long as you wash them well they won’t lose their shape as much as a plain cotton top would. I plan on hanging mine to dry instead of sticking them in the dryer just to make sure.

Had to pop on the signature J Crew herringbone vest, naturally.

Anyway, I thought I would share in case some other ladies were looking for a way to feel comfortable and warm this winter + look cute and amazing all at the same time.

Happy Wednesday!

Hello, everyone! Sorry for the crickets lately. Been feeling a tad under the weather and was resting up.

So! Let’s get back into it with another round of 5 Favorites!

  • Flannel & Plaid

It’s no secret that I LOVE plaid & flannel. Love love love love. It’s so cozy for fall & winter and I also just love the look. And also sometimes when you wear flannel it feels like you’re wearing pajamas. So boom. That’s another win.

(American Eagle Outfitters)

You can make it look casual by dressing it down with skinnies & boots/sneakers, or you can dress it up with skinnies & heels (Or dare I say, CLOGS?!).

Or even tucking some flannel into a high waisted skirt! What! Yes! I said it!

  • Little Women (1994)

I LOVE this movie. I’ve loved it since I was a child. I used to watch it allllll the time.  Yes, the book is better. I actually collect old copies of Little Women just because I love the story that much. There’s nothing better than the smell of a really old book. But. This film version is my favorite by far. Don’t get me wrong, I also love the 1933 version with Katharine Hepburn – but the 1994 version has ALWAYS been one of my favorite films. It just makes me feel good things, ya know? And it’s on Amazon Prime streaming! Say what! If you haven’t seen it, please do so. You’ll thank me later.

(Jo & Laurie 4eva. Down with Amy!)

Which leads me to this…

For every book snob out there. This is for you. And me.

I hadn’t even ever heard of dry conditioner before Kate from The Small Things Blog wrote about reviving day 2 hair the other day. Dry shampoo, of course. It’s a lifesaver. My ends do tend to get a bit dry and scraggly after a while and when Kate recommended the Pureology Dry Conditioner I was intrigued. I picked some up from Ulta and WOAH, obsessed already. First of all, it smells AHHMAZING. Second, It really does work quite nicely. I just sprayed my ends and only to about halfway up the strands making sure to stay away from the top of my head and the roots. Almost instantly you could tell a huge difference in the dryness on my ends. This one is a winner, folks.

  • Christmas Parades!

So this last Saturday we were able to get out of the house and make it out to a local Christmas Parade in a Downtown area near us.

It’s an annual Parade that goes on and while I grew up in the area, I had actually never been before this weekend. Joe and I thought that S would really enjoy it and boy were we right! All the local school bands played + there were about 10 Peanuts floats + Santa in a fire truck + 6 Grinch floats. Which S loved. Because she is absolutely OBSESSED with the Grinch at the moment. The cartoon film, the live person film AND the book. When she saw the first Grinch float with a Grinch that actually looked like the Grinch, she FLIPPED OUT. Like, Taylor Hanson level flipped out.

She takes after her mother, what can I say?

It was the best thing ever, though. Totally worth sitting out in the cold for 3+ hours claiming our spot on the sidewalk.

Only got one picture because we were too busy actually being in the moment and enjoying the experience, rather than perpetually having a cell phone in the way trying to document the evening solely to post on this blog. Because that’s just silly.

…aaaaaand I’ve got lipstick on my tooth. But alas, sometimes these things must be documented anyway.

It was a good start to the Holidays & it felt lovely to stir up some good old-fashioned Christmas cheer.
